Synopsis

SP Amit Kumar (Ajay Devgan) is transferred to Tejpur district in Bihar state. Sadhu Yadav (Mohan Joshi) along with his ruffian son Sundar Yadav (Yashpal Sharma) control the place with their mafia-politics. Amit Kumar begins cleaning up the system and faces all kinds of pressures from the Yadavs. He does not buckle under pressure. This inspires the cops working under him and they try to clean the system by throwing acid battery into the eyes of hardcore criminals in prison. The people of Tejpur also follow suit to rebel against the Yadavs. Amit Kumar has a dual responsibility of setting the morals of the police right and bringing the Yadavs to retribution.

The film was loosely based on the Bhagalpur blindings. These refer to incidents in 1979 and 1980 in Bhagalpur in Bihar when police blinded 31 undertrials, by pouring acid into their eyes and poking needles in their eyes. The incident was widely debated and discussed by several human rights organisations.
