Built in 1891, the Chail Maharaja's Palace is set in approximately 75 acres and has a truly regal setting with spectacular views. When Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala was expelled from Shimla - The Summer Capital of the British India, he decided to create his own capital for the warm months. In 1972, the property set in about 75 acres of land-including orchards, tennis courts and cottages-passed into the hands of Himachal Tourism, and are now run as a popular heritage hotel and a full-fledged destination resort.
