The village of Gstaad is the centre of the region of the Bernese Oberland. Gstaad a village in the German-speaking section of the Canton of Berne in southwestern Switzerland. Surrounded by Alps, Gstaad, is one of the most well knowing ski resorts in the world. This resort area is among the biggest ski areas in Europe. With over 250 ski runs and lifts on three mountains, there are innumerable opportunities for skiing and boarding, with runs to suit people of all abilities. The hotels, chalets and holiday apartments are furnished in a cosy yet traditional style. Many restaurants, shops and hotels line the city centre. The surroundings offer various ski resorts and possibilities for hiking, all of which can be reached by the mountain railway. You can also go rock climbing in Saanenland-Pays d’Enhaut or even ice climbing on the glacier above the Col du Pillon or close to Lake Lauenen. n summer, Gstaad hosts to several world-class festivals and tournaments including the Menuhin Classic Music Festival, the ATP Tennis Championships and the Polo Silver Cup and the hot-air balloon festival in Chateau-d’Oex (in January).
