Hari Mandir Ashram is 25-acre campus, 40 km outside Gurgaon in Pataudi Village in Haryana. It certainly looks the part of a typical ashram: a magnificent temple, a school for 500 students, dormitories for men and women, an old-age home and a clinic. The Ashram Harimandir Sanskrit Mahavidyalya (AHSMV) first came into being in 1920 in Kotjai - a part of the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) - which is presently in Pakistan. It was founded by the divine saint Swami Amar Dev. Later from 1935 to 1947 the ASHMV functioned in Darya Khan, a part of district Miawali (now in Pakistan). Meanwhile in 1944 Swamiji also set up a vidyalaya in Mankera (now in Pakistan). After the partition of India in 1947 Swamiji made a new beginning by setting up the Ashram Harimandir Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya in Pataudi (district Gurgaon), Haryana. Like in Kotjai, Darya Khan and Mankera, AHSMV, Pataudi too has been engaged in promoting the cause of imparting free education with particular emphasis on teaching and learning of Sanskrit.
