This is a check damn across the Lakya river, the tributary of Bhadra river. This dam is constructed by KIOCL (Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited) to fill it with the slurry left behind after recovery of the iron ore. It is about 100 ft in height. There is no water here that can be used. You can see a layer of fine sand layer across the entire dam surrounded by lush green mountain ranges. The main utility of this dam is to collect the waste materials from the mining operations, since it is a dam of silt not water. The dam is at the backdrop of picturesque hilly terrains, shola forests and calm flowing backwater rivers. The dam and the surroundings are scenic and lots of tourists are attracted towards it.
