Lawrence School, Lovedale
The Lawrence School was founded in 1858 by Maj Gen Sir Henry Lawrence, who foundied the school in the Nilgiris for children of serving soldiers and ex-soldiers of the British Army in India so that they could have the benefit of a sound education in a bracing and healthy climate. Lovedale is situated at about 7,200 feet above sea level and enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year. Today, The Lawrence School is run as a public school, open to all, with forty percent of the seats reserved for the children of defence personnel.
