Wai came into existence in the 1700s when the Pandavas lived here. At that point it was called Viraatnagari. Since it has over 100 temples, it is also called Dakshin Kaashi. It is about an hour's drive from Panchgani. Wai is situated on the banks of River Krishna and has 7 ghats. The most famous ghat is the ghat on which Dholya Ganapati temple is situated.
