The Western Catchment is about 20 km from Parson's Valley in the Bangitapal Area. It is about 40 km from Ooty and is part of the Mukurthi Wildlife Sanctuary. Mukurthi Wildlife Sanctuary is the only sanctuary that is shared between 3 states viz Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. This beautiful and eye-catching place consisting of meadows down the valley. There are a couple of reservoirs here. Rolling hills with lush green carpet cover, meandering streams, pristine lake like reservoirs surrounded by hills. Portimund Lake is the blue meandering stream in stark contrast to the lush green hills.
